Where is Suizenji Kohen(水前寺公園）- Garden park ?
I ‘ll tell you about Suizenji Kohen , one of the most famous, beautiful Japanese garden park in Kumamoto City.

Kumamoto is located in the middle west of Kyushu Island in Japan.

Access to Suizenji Kohen
Taking city tram from JR(Japan Railway) Kumamoto Station, or Kumamoto Castle stop is convenient and good idea.
It takes approximately 30 minutes from JR Kumamoto station to Suizenji Kohen stop. From Kumamoto Catsle, it takes much less. Kumamoto catsle and Suizenji park are not far each other.
Please get off ” Suizenji Kohen “stop.
You ‘ll see the guide board. It’s only a few minute walk from the tram stop to the entrance of Suizenji Kohen.
Pathway with shops and ” Kumamon”, the bear
From the tram stop to the entrance of Suizenji Kohen, there are many souvenir shops along the street. My favorite Kumamon, mascot character black bear, are here and there.
Kumamon (mascot black bear ) says ” Welcome to Suizenji Kohen!”
You see green wood , don’t you? There is the entrance of the Garden.
You need pay admission fee there.

Suizenji Kohen, Garden Park
This beautiful strolling garden with tea arbor in Kumamoto was built in 1632 (Edo era)
by three Hosokawa lords.
Suizenji Garden is located near the center of Kumamoto City, though its area is so wide, about 64.6 hectares.
Suizenji Kohen , this garden layout imitates the 53 Stations or Post Towns of the old Tokaido way between Km Aso mountains)yoto and Tokyo.
Suizenji Garden has , miniature Mount Fuji and clean big pond is made as Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, near Kyoto,

There is Izumi Shrine (dedicated ancestors of Hosokawa family ). Top photo, and below. (2017 )
An Inari Shrine, with many vermillion torii gates lined up . There was the biggest Stone made torii gate .

However, the big Kumamoto Earthquake in April 2016, the biggest Stone made Torii gate fell down, it has been still missing. (2nd photo , I took in 2017)

You need about 30-40 minutes to walk around the Suizenji Kohen garden park.
Here is also a nice spot for cherry blossom viewing or just relaxing in general.
Not only tourists , Kumamoto citizen love Suizenji Kohen garden park.
It’s not far from center of Kumamoto town.
I really recommend to visit here .
photo in February 2013. Izumi Shrine ‘s big torii gate was there.
Now it missing . Plum blossom was in full bloom in the end of Feburuary. Smells so nice, and countless birds were singing among trees. It was so beautiful!
